FAQs

Q: How’s the weather?

ANew Mexico holds the national record for the most consecutive days of sunshine! The days are warm in the high elevations of New Mexico and can be hot in North Carolina from June through August, although cooler temperatures are found at the higher altitudes where we spend most of our time. Rain showers can always be anticipated in the afternoons in the mountains. Temperatures are variable in April, May, September and October and riders should be prepared for cooler temperatures. All riders should bring rain suites, riding jackets and boots.

Q: What type of accommodations do you provide?

A: We try to provide the finest upscale accommodations available in the towns in which we stay. We also find Hotels or Inns with regional or historic interest. For the most part we stay near the center of towns to be within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The cost of the lodging represents a substantial part of the tour cost.

Q: What happens if my bike breaks down?

A:  We have a chase vehicle with a trailer to take your bike to the nearest dealer for repairs. We also carry a spare bike for your use.

Q: Do I have to wear a helmet.

A:  We encourage helmets but impose no requirements beyond state laws. North Carolina requires all riders to wear helmets, New Mexico and South Carolina do not.

Q: If my riding companion gets tired can she ride in the chase vehicle?

A: Absolutely. The chase driver loves company. Your partner is welcome in the chase vehicle for the entire trip if she prefers.

Q: Can I do my own thing on the trip?

A:  It depends on what your thing is, but we are in business to serve you and to make this an unforgettable experience in every way we can. You are welcome to ride alone or to set your own pace. Our chase vehicle has a phone and a CB so that you can contact us if you need to should you leave the group for any part of a day. We can provide you with maps and information on sites in the area. Most of our nights are spent in fascinating towns full of good restaurants and shops, and you can tour and eat on your own or with the group. We try to provide all of the flexibility you want while taking all of the hassles out of traveling.

Q: Can I bring my own bike?

A:  Yes. If you need information on shipping or a place to park a trailer please contact us and we will help with the arrangements.

Q: How are the roads?

A:  The roads are fabulous. Lots of mountains and lots of curves. All are paved and most of them are lightly traveled, especially in New Mexico. We have chosen the routes for both scenery and an exciting ride.

Q: Do I have to carry everything on my bike?

A: No. We have room in the chase vehicle and the trailer for your luggage, but we try to limit it to one suitcase per rider.

Q:  What if I can't afford the tour or my schedule doesn't fit?

A:  We will custom design a tour to fit your budget and schedule. We can offer two or three day tours and we can arrange for more economical accommodations with double occupancy. Please give us a call and let us know what your needs are.

Q: My wife doesn't like to ride. What can she do?

A: Anyone that doesn't like to ride a bike is welcome in the chase vehicle. Our tours are also planned with many activities apart from riding. There is something for everyone!
